Current Momentum Heat Map Shows Western Resurgence in 3Q 2021

U.S. economic growth overall continued to improve in the third quarter of 2021, with the West edging closer to the strong performance of the Southeast and Southwest, while markets in the Northeast and Midwest continue to lag. That’s according to a newly released, interactive Current Momentum Heat Map developed by SitusAMC Insights, the data, analytics and research division of SitusAMC.

The Heat Map gauges metro economic conditions and the near-term growth forecast for the top 50 U.S. metros, using a variety of analytics based on employment, unemployment, and income. The Heat Map reports on current conditions and outlooks for market economies and property segments, with an interactive visualization to help discern market-specific conditions, regional and market size variations, and the direction of momentum.

“We are seeing a clear resurgence in the West, where seven markets improved over the quarter,” said Peter Muoio, PhD., Senior Director of SitusAMC Insights. “The improvement came from smaller markets, and from the Northwest, where all metros have moved up to a 1 or 2 in our tier scheme, versus a year ago, when they ranked 5 or 6.”
